Dental Day

We just got done with a football party. Braden had his dad, brother and old roommate over to watch some football, and so of course we had to have lots of yummy treats.

It's probably a good thing that the entire lower part of my jaw was completely numb until about 8pm, but I still wanted to eat some treats (although I didn't). I got my teeth cleaned at 4pm today, and I'm not a fan of the dentist. I should go more often than I should, but I don't, so that when I do go, I need more work done. In my defense, I've been prego a lot lately, so when there was a window for me to go, I just didn't think about it.

Anyway, I was scared to eat anything, and I was starving! I finally made a banana milkshake about 30 minutes ago, took small sips and didn't let any of it touch my teeth (well, it did once, and it was OUCHY). So I know I'll be starving tomorrow. I hope that my teeth aren't quite as sensitive tomorrow morning, so I can at least chew somewhat.

In other news, Jenna was running around without a shirt on (by her own choice) for much of the night. She either looks like she just came from Ethiopia, or she's into her third trimester. Now there's a girl who is definitely not starving, and apparently she likes to show it off to older men! :)

I go to the dentist every 6 months and I STILL require dental work regularly. I narrowly avoided needing a root canal recently! I brush at least twice a day and floss every day too!! I guess there's not much more I can do.

I hate to blow your theory out of the water, but you can go to the dentist and get cleanings and even fillings while you're pregnant. Novocaine won't hurt anything. Then again, if you require laughing gas, well I don't know if that's so safe. So get thyself to the dentist my friend! :-)

Carolyn is right. But also remember what I told you that I learned from someone..oh, yeah, the dental hygienist... that your teeth are weakened by pregnancy and need at least a year of nonpregnancy to recover. which you didn't give it.

Also, I think most infant/toddlers have some kind of posture thingy that makes their stomach stick out more. That is a totally nonscientific observation.

It was soooo fun to talk with you and Jenna the other night. I love being able to see her when I talk. funnnnnnn.

oh, and also, it depends whether you got my teeth or your dad's.

It's not *my* theory; it's from calling dentist after dentist when I was pregnant with Jenna and having them refuse to treat me when they found out I was pregnant! Seriously, no one would have anything to do with me. The one dentist I ended up going to would only take a superficial look at my teeth, and that was it. Thank goodness I didn't have to pay for it.

I believe it's the x-rays that they won't do, and that's what you do on the first visit, so they can see what needs to be done.

yeah, it certainly helps to already have a current dentist.

I've had my teeth cleaned when I was pregnant with both Amy and Sadie. Obviously, I had no X-rays, but with Sadie, I was a new patient, and they had no problem at all with doing a cleaning. As far as waiting a year after having a baby to visit a dentist, I've never heard that in my life. I think waiting a year is not a good thing since pregnancy can weaken the teeth, and it's good to know right away if there are problems.

Hmm...I don't know. That's just been my experience, but they would have to do x-rays first.

I wouldn't wait a year to go, and I don't think that's what my mom was saying, just that the teeth are weakened and you might need more work because of it. Mom, feel free to explain what you meant.

Well, it doesn't matter, ultimately...everyone will do what they think is best or right for them. Hope your teeth feel better today.
